San Francisco Vikings’ Director of Coaching, Tommy Alioto, has a long history of developmental programs for 6U, 7U, and 8U players. Players will play 5v5 including introducing the goalie into team play. Players will learn the necessary fundamental ball mastery and techniques to play a  skillful and attacking style of play. Players will gain confidence in dribbling moves, shooting, ball control, passing, receiving, and goalkeeping.

Players will be part of a player-directed environment that motivates them to make their own decisions, and allows them to make mistakes as part of the learning process. Parents and spectators will honor the “Silent Sideline” rules. This means no yelling instructions at players,  which would only inhibit confidence, independence, and decision making. Coaches will also allow players to make decisions and will not micromanage players for results.

As players gain new ball control skills, they will begin to spread out into positions and become two-way transitional players who move freely from defense to offense and offense to defense.

Having fun by learning the proper way to play leads to a passion for the beautiful game. Fun interactive games motivate players to learn, teach them to play with teammates, and develop the proper competitive spirit - all while learning the rules of the game.

The San Francisco Vikings 5v5 Developmental Training Program and scrimmages will NOT replace your regular team, it will still allow players to play for their own teams while supplementing players’ learning and love for the game. All coaches who are interested in learning "The Vikings Way" are welcome and will be mentored to take this philosophy and methods back to their teams.

What are Silent Sidelines?

Silent Sidelines are events where we ask all parents and spectators to minimize their sideline chatter and refrain from yelling anything  during play.  This will help ensure players are given a proper learning environment, can freely and easily communicate with their teammates, and ultimately take ownership of their play.
