The SFVSC B01 Barbarians Red is a Boys team currently playing at the U11 travel team level. We are a new team, founded in the Fall of 2011. This year, we played at the CCSL Bronze level, and in the Winter of 2012 the team played in the San Francisco Park and Rec Futsal League at the Competitive Level.
We have a terrific group of boys who come from a variety of schools throughout the city, speak multiple languages and all love soccer! Although we are a first year team our team has a strong bond and seeks multiple opportunities to play and socialize together.
We were losing finalists in the first two tournaments we played, the Golden Gate Invitational held in San Francisco in September 2011; and the Juventus Coppa D’Oro held in Redwood City in December 2011. All our boys share a passion for and contagious enthusiasm for the game of soccer and have a strong sense of team spirit and togetherness.
Our coach is Toby Rappolt, a long time Vikings club coach, Director of the Vikings Soccer Summer Camp, and owner of the Sunset Soccer Supply Store. Toby has coached select Vikings soccer club teams for almost 15 years. Toby has most recently coached the U13 Barbarians Travel team, the U13 Barbarians Upper House teams and is the varsity assistant coach at Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep High School. Toby’s coaching philosophy is to develop and instill in youth the important life values of individual and group effort, group trust, group loyalty, sportsmanship and integrity in positive and competitive learning environments using a soccer team as the vehicle. Toby enjoys coaching players who run a lot and make major efforts in games and practices even when the chances of winning are seemingly impossible. He enjoys coaching players who are not afraid to physically challenge an opponent. This is the type of player Toby is looking for and the type of player he enjoy coaching.
Our team practices twice a week, typically in the South Sunset turf fields which allows us to practice rain or shine! Games are typically on the weekends, Saturdays and/or Sundays in the Fall, Sundays in the Winter for Futsal, and Saturdays and/or Sundays in the Spring. As part of our goal to build the team camaraderie and provide multiple playing opportunities, we also hold numerous informal games and practices when we can. The goal of our practice sessions and tournaments is to learn and continually improve our boys’ skills in the game of soccer, but also, and as important, for the boys to have fun, grow and develop as a team.
