2012-13 age group: U15
Fall 2012 playing league: CCSL
The SFVSC Marauders is a Boys team currently playing at the U15 level. Founded in the fall of 2009, we play in the Upper House level of the San Francisco Vikings League in the fall and spring seasons. In the winter we play in the José Coronado Futsal League run by SF Rec & Park.
Our players come from a variety of San Francisco schools including SF Day, Hoover Middle, SF Friends and others.
The Viking Hammer embraces a mindset of “soccer academy” where learning and growth are emphasized over short-term victories. We focus on improvement over time with a goal that each player will be a competitive candidate for a place on his high school team, with the skills and understanding necessary to play any position on the field and to fit into any coach’s tactics and style.
As part of our focus on learning a key and culminating experience was our team trip to São Paolo, Brazil in June 2011. Organized and guided by Soccer Futuro, we spent time in the city of Santos where we played one of Santos FC’s youth team and watched other age group youth games. After this we traveled to Aguas de Lindoia and played a three-game tournament against other Brazil youth teams, augmented by futsal nights and social events. The purpose of our trip was not to win games or even improve our skills per se, but rather to provide an example of what excellent play and passion for the sport looks like. If a young player can how his counterparts in the best clubs in the world approach the sport, it provides him a sense of what is possible as well as what it takes.
We attend an average of one or two tournaments per year and go to them with a mind to have a good time and allow the boys as well as parents to get to know each other and bond.
In the fall of 2012 the team will have a new coach appointed by the Viking club but will continue its focus of improvement and learning.
