2011 GGI Rules

2010 Golden Gate Invitational Tournament Rules

 

This tournament shall be played in accordance with CYSA and FIFA rules 
as modified by the following changes and additions:
 
1.CREDENTIALS
USYSA Player passes, adult passes, signed 1601 USYSA membership form for each player and official CYSA team roster (goldenrod properly validated by the District Registrar is required). US Club credentials are also accepted. A team may have up to 7 guest players, and in the case of u16 and older teams, with expanded rosters, a different 18 player roster may be submitted for each game.
 
4 Game stickers must be presented Fri night . In the case of the expanded roster U16G and u18G teams, all players who may be participating must be on the game card, and have their credentials at check-in. The coach may then choose the 18 participating players at the game. Players who will not be participating can’t be in uniform if they are sitting on the team bench.
 
Team representatives will present credentials at the mandatory check-in held on Friday evening before the tournament, September 23rd, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., at San Francisco Vikings Soccer Club located at 2521 Judah Street x 31st. 415-753-3111. Unless prior arrangements are made with tournament officials, failure to attend the mandatory credential check-in will result in a one point deduction from team tournament points. Thirty (30) minutes prior to each team’s scheduled game time, the team must report to the field marshals at the game site.
 
2.PROTESTS
All games will be considered final; no protests will be accepted.
 
3.LENGTH OF GAME
All games – two thirty minute halves.
Championship matches: In case of a tie after regulation time, as shown 
above, two 5-minute Golden Goal overtime periods will be played. If 
the score remains tied at the end of OT period, kicks from the penalty 
spot will be taken per FIFA rules to determine the winner.
NOTE: Injury time will NOT be added to the length of any game, except 
for the most extenuating circumstances. This will be at the discretion 
of the referee.
 
4.SPORTSMANSHIP, CONDUCT, & FIELD RULES
A. Good sportsmanship will prevail. Coaches are responsible for the 
conduct of their players, parents, and spectators.
B. Substitute players, & coaches must remain in designated areas. 
Spectators must remain outside the fence or in the bleachers. No food 
or dogs are allowed onto the fields.
C. Coaching shall be done only from an area 10 yards either side of the 
mid-field line.
D. A Coach may not make derogatory remarks or gestures to the referees, 
other coaches, or players nor behave in an inciting or disruptive 
manner.
 
5.FORFEITURES
A. Any team not ready to play five (5) minutes after the scheduled 
starting time (7 players minimum) will forfeit the game. The official 
score will be 1-0 and 7 points will be awarded to the forfeit game 
winner (not considered a shutout). No points will be awarded to either 
team if both teams are not ready to play five (5) minutes after the 
scheduled start time.
B. The referees, at their discretion, may abandon a game if:
• A team leaves the field of play without approval of the referee;
• A team is sent from the field by the referee for frequent and/or 
violent conduct;
• Extreme technical-area or spectator-area misconduct (by player, 
coach, or fans) that causes interruption of play; and
• Any breach of the ban on consumption of alcoholic beverages.
NOTE: Abandonment forfeitures will result in 7 points being awarded to 
the forfeit winner (not considered a shutout). All forfeiting teams 
receive zero (0) points regardless of the score at the time of the 
abandonment. Additional penalties may be imposed to the forfeiting 
team at the discretion of the Tournament Committee.
 
 
6.CHAMPIONSHIP AND CONSOLATION GAMES
Scoring Determination of Flight/Place Winners
6 points will be awarded for each win
3 points will be awarded for each tie
0 points will be awarded for each loss
1 point will be awarded for each goal scored, to a maximum of 3 points 
per game, regardless of win, loss or tie.
1 point will be awarded to the winner of a shutout game, including 
“0-0” game, not abandoned or caused by a game forfeit.
IMPORTANT: 2 points will be deducted for each red card received.
Tie Breaking Rules: If a tie exists in points between two or more teams at the conclusion of the preliminary games, the following tie breaking procedures will be applied in sequence to determine which team advances to the next game. This tie breaking format will be applied in sequence to the two teams playing to a tie.
1.The team which won head to head competition between the teams that are tied will advance.
2. Goal differential (sum of goals scored minus goals allowed in each game to a maximum differential of 4 (+4 or -4) will advance.
3. Teams with fewest goals against advances.
4. The team with most goals scored to a maximum of 4 in each game advances.
5. The team with fewest red cards advances.
6. The team with most successful kicks from the penalty spot as per FIFA rules will advance.

7.SUBSTITUTION RULES
Unlimited substitution will be allowed with referee approval in the 
following situations:
• prior to throw-in by your team;
• prior to goal kick by either team;
• prior to the restart of the game after a goal scored by either team;
• at the start of the 2nd half of play; and
• prior to a restart of the game after an injured player is removed 
from the field (either team may sub)
 
NOTE: A player may be substituted following a yellow card. The player 
may return at the next substitution opportunity.
No substitution for red-carded players.
RED CARD NOTE: An automatic two-game suspension shall be served for a 
red-carded player or coach. If deemed necessary, the tournament committee may impose further suspension for ejected players or coaches.
 
8.HOME TEAM & GAME BALL
The team listed first on the schedule is the home team. If there is a 
conflict of jersey colors between teams in a scheduled match, the home 
team is responsible for change of jerseys. The home team will provide 
the game ball. If the ball is not acceptable to the referee, he/she may 
request another ball from either team.
 
9.OTHER SITUATIONS & PLAYER EQUIPMENT
Any situation not covered by these rules will be resolved by the 
Tournament Committee. The Tournament Committee may make alterations to 
these rules as necessary and in the spirit of the game. Sufficient 
notification will be given to all those concerned. Players wearing 
orthopedic casts, braces (metal, carbon fiber, hard plastic, and like 
devices), or splints (air or metal) shall not be eligible to 
participate in any game. Elastic-type supports without any metal, 
carbon fiber, hard plastic or like devices are permitted provided the 
referee does not deem the support to be potentially harmful to other 
players and provided the player has a CYSA medical doctor’s written 
clearance (approval) for such a support.
 
10.AWARDS
Each player will receive a tournament pin. In all divisions awards 
will be given to the first through fourth place teams.
