Zak Ibsen

A native of Santa Cruz, coach Zak Ibsen is entering his second year as a Vikings Club coach with the Glens U14 boys team. Zak brings with him an extensive playing and coaching background which has enabled him to make an instant impact in the Club.

As a player, Zak earned three caps with the United States men's national soccer team and was a member of the U.S. soccer team at the 1992 Summer Olympics. As a youth player his background includes a McGuire Cup title leading to a successful collegiate career at UCLA where he won a National Championship in 1990 and graduated with a bachelor's degree in political science in 1993.
 
His professional soccer career includes stints professional soccer in Germany with VfL Bochum II, Saarbrücken II along with time in Major League Soccer with the New England Revolution, Dallas Burn, Los Angeles Galaxy, and finally the San Jose Earthquakes. In 1998 Ibsen won his first MLS Cup before picking up his second in 2001 with the San Jose Earthquakes.
 
Zak’s coaching background includes various head coaching positions with youth clubs throughout the Bay Area, including the Mustang Soccer Club in Danville and the Santa Cruz Breakers. He has also has coached at the college level as an assistant at UC Berkley and UC Santa Cruz.
 
Ibsen holds a United States Soccer Federation National “B” License and continues to play as a member of the United States national beach soccer team since 1995 where he led the team to a Silver Medal at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
