Athena goes to Regionals in Denver
SFVSC G98 Athena Red wins Santa Rosa Nike Premier Harvest Wine Cup!
The SFVSC G98 Athena Red team continued their early season tournament success with their 1st place finish in the Gold Division at the Santa Rosa Nike Premier Harvest Wine Cup.
After tying the first game of the tournament, the team went on to shut out their opponents in the following three matches, including a 3-0 win in the championship game against the Central Valley YSL Jaguars.

SFVSC G98 Athena Red Girls Win Walnut Creek Summerfest Championship!
Congratulations to our G98 Athena Red team for winning the Division 1 Walnut Creek Summerfest championship this past weekend. The team advanced to the championship game by tying Central Marin 1-1, beating Davis Legacy 4-1 and beating Walnut Creek Explosion 2-1. Coach Libby Rappolt rallied the girls with her "San Francisco Girls Love the Heat!" motivational speech and they went on to beat the Mill Valley Rockers 4-1 in the championship game.
The team was also awarded the "Sportsmanship Award" by the field marshals for their classy play . It is rare that the team that wins the tournament also receives the "Sportsmanship Award". Our girls had terrific composure under pressure, especially in a rough , physical game against Walnut Creek, who won the consolation 3rd place game.
The Athena team had great depth, with goals scored by 6 different players and saving tackles made by every player. The effort made to chase the opponent was seen in the number of opponent shots that were rushed by our pressuring defenders and went off target. It took true strength of will to keep sprinting in the heat, but the girls made a terrific effort to overcome their discomfort, and were rewarded with great results.
